Waterproof Board Construction Case Study

Introduction

In this project, waterproof board was applied as the main anti-seepage and protection material. With its excellent impermeability and durability, it was used to prevent water penetration in underground structures, tunnels, and foundation works, ensuring long-term stability and safety of the construction.

Role of Waterproof Board in Construction

1. Anti-Seepage Function: Provides a continuous impermeable layer, effectively preventing groundwater infiltration into structures.

2. Structural Protection: Protects underground facilities such as basements, tunnels, and reservoirs from water damage.

3. Durability: Exhibits strong resistance to pressure, puncture, and chemical corrosion, ensuring long-term performance in harsh environments.

4. Flexibility and Adaptability: Can be applied to irregular or curved surfaces, maintaining integrity under deformation.

5. Cost Efficiency: Reduces maintenance costs by preventing water-related structural damage over the long term.

Construction Method

1. Base Preparation: Clean and smooth the construction surface, removing sharp objects, debris, or protrusions. Compact and level the foundation to ensure close contact.

2. Waterproof Board Laying: Roll out the waterproof board on the prepared surface, ensuring it lies flat without wrinkles. Overlap adjacent sheets by 10–15 cm.

3. Seam Treatment: Weld or bond the overlaps using hot air welding or extrusion welding. Ensure seams are tight and waterproof through inspection.

4. Anchoring and Fixing: Anchor edges into trenches or fix them with mechanical fasteners, depending on design requirements. For vertical walls, fix the waterproof board with fastening plates or adhesives.

5. Protective Layer Installation: Apply a protective geotextile or concrete layer above the waterproof board to prevent mechanical damage during backfilling or subsequent construction.

6. Inspection and Repair: Conduct leak detection tests such as spark testing or vacuum testing. Repair any damage or defects immediately to ensure integrity.

Application Effect

After installation, the waterproof board provided excellent seepage resistance, preventing groundwater infiltration and protecting structural foundations. Its durability and adaptability ensured long-term safety and stability, significantly reducing the risk of water-related failures and maintenance costs. The project demonstrated strong effectiveness in underground waterproofing and structural protection applications.
